Researchers at Uppsala University are looking for people with lived experience of eating disorders to join a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) group for a research project.
About the research project
Eating disorders can have serious effects on people’s health, daily life, and ability to work. However, we still know relatively little about their economic impact in Sweden.
This three-year research project aims to:
- Estimate the economic impact of eating disorders in Sweden
- Understand how eating disorders affect work performance and employment
- Evaluate whether preventive interventions could reduce health and economic impacts
The research will use large Swedish population datasets on eating disorder treatment linked with other national registers. The findings will help healthcare decision-makers and policymakers understand the burden of eating disorders and identify effective preventive strategies.
Why involve people with lived experience?
Your experiences can help ensure the research asks relevant questions and reflects real-world experiences of eating disorders.
The PPI group may help researchers:
- Review survey questions, including questions about out-of-pocket costs
- Discuss how eating disorders affect work and work performance
- Give feedback on whether research questions and variables make sense
- Suggest important perspectives that may be missing
- Provide insight into the impact on relatives and family members
- Give input on systematic reviews and interpretation of findings
You do not need research experience to participate.
Who can apply?
We welcome applicants who:
- Are aged 18 years or older
- Have lived experience of an eating disorder, or experience as a relative/supporter
- Are interested in contributing their perspective to research
We aim to include people with diverse experiences and backgrounds.
What does participation involve?
- Two meetings per term (about four meetings per year)
- Meetings will take place at Uppsala University or online
- Meetings and project communication will be in English
- Contributors will receive 180 SEK per hour for their time
